Those Chinese grownups, who made the decision to switch one girl for the other, are the ones I have an issue with. These insensitive bottom-feeders sent a message to the other girl that she was just not good looking enough. She will carry that with her for the rest of her life. If there is any shame in them they should make every effort to correct their bad decision. I doubt that will happen since these officials have proved themselves to be backward and indifferent people.

I think both girls were beautiful. The girl who actually sang the lyrics should have been the one on camera. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” but unless one looks beyond any superficial packaging, or veneer, true beauty can never be discovered.

Although she wasn’t on camera, it’s at least comforting to know that her beautiful voice touched all of us and will live forever.

Jennifer, Interesting to read your post. I was pretty much thinking the same way everyone else posted. Thanks for providing your insite into the culture..

As a Chinese (but not from China, I'm from Malaysia), I can safely tell u the Chinese don't see a problem with this not because they're evil, but because it's no big deal.

I dare say the girl who sang (who wasn't cute enough) isn't bothered by it and the girl who lip-synced is probably oblivious to the fact that she is cuter. It's the grownups who see what's what and grownups who get bothered by it.

We are brought up very differently in Asia. We do what makes our families proud, be it singing the national anthem or pretending to sing it, it's all the same. Seriously, both girls probably feel immensely proud to be apart of the Olympics and will feel they've done their duty to their families and their country.
