There are currently theories that say that bras are causing problems with women's breasts. I believe that bras are causing breast cancer in SOME of the cases. Some are genetic of course. But when I wear a bra for more than a half of a day, my breasts feel sore and I need to take it off. It doesn't matter how loose is it is. The thing is that if it is too loose then you may as well not wear one. I think women need to have a"braliday" once a week. We can also unhook it for brief periods during the day such as riding in the car or at home just relaxing. The underwire bras are the worst according to the researchers in the studies I read.
I could see where bras do cause some trouble. Like the designers put the straps and elastic in the wrong area and then we all developed 3rd and 4th booblets near our armpits. But to blame a garment for cancer???? I can't support that.
Considering all the chemicals we put in our bodies everyday in food, on our bodies with lotions, creams and soaps, and breathe in....it's no wonder that our bodies are so messed up. When you stop and consider that millions of years of reproduction mistakes trickling down into bad chromosome combinations as well, you can't blame anyone but ourselves for the diseases we develop.
I for one need my bra daily. If I don't wear it, I hurt and my milk ducts get swollen. I'm no longer nursing but I still have trouble with a few. However, I have to be very choosy about my bras, and the soaps I use. It's better to spend more for the better support and fabric than itch all day every day.
I prefer this garment to the corsets and layers of dresses we used to wear.
Thinking of a parade of bra-less women going out to meet guys, well, since they are visually stimulated I think we would ruin some opportunities for conversation because I for one have inspired a lot of childish giggling in my all natural state.
Plus I feel sorry for those of us that are blessed with more than they really want and the effects of gravity on the skin trying to hold all that weight up. I mean really do you want your breasts to hang down to your waist?
Frankly your idea doesn't hold water. I know a good percentage of men develop mammary cysts and breast cancer too. Are you going to accuse them of cross dressing?
I think your question Melissa is VERY interesting!! I have never thought about that before. AND it does make me wonder!! I would LOVE to have a "BRALIDAY (LMAO)!!!! It's a very good idea and I love it!!! IF we all did this then maybe the MEN would not look at us with their tongues hanging open all the time!!! LOL!!! You are SOOO good!!!!
Hi Melissa, I totally agree with you about bras. No matter what style I buy, I cannot wait to get it off the minute I get in
the door of my home. Never thought about unhooking it in the car for a brief period. Good idea. I will be trying that tomorrow. Figures a man invented these torture chambers for our breasts. Take care. Judi

I could see bras being bad for breasts if they cut off circulation. Good circulation is critical to all sorts of key bodily functions. However, I concur with another response that when considering all the other things women do to their bodies (fragrances, anti-persperant, preservatives, animal products, hormones, medications, diet aids, artificial colors, artificial flavors, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, narcotics, saturated fat, processed cheeses and meats, and on and on and on...) not to mention one's genetic predisposition to contract a particular illness, I cannot credibly support a statement that bras are bad for breasts from a cancer-causing perspective.
There was a study ~10 years ago by two British (?) scientists who alleged that breast cancer is more common in "bra-wearing" nations than others. However, I believe their study was essentially poo-poohed by the American Cancer Society and American Medical Association because it did not follow accepted protcols for scientific studies including controls for other factors such as diet, race, family/medical history, etc. I believe any search on "bras cause cancer" will turn up articles about this on sites such as snopes and breakthechain.org.
That said, for anyone who is really THAT concerned that bras will cause cancer and who are CONVINCED that no other aspect of their lives would promote their risk (e.g. they have a clean diet, exercise regularly, no recreational substances, little cosmetic use, etc.), there is probably no harm in not wearing a bra. Except for women who are pretty heavy-chested, wearing a bra is more of a cosmetic thing than anything else. Gravity will take its toll on all breasts eventually so wearing a bra only postpones the inevitable. :)
