This is a pretty personal topic, since my hubs works in video games. All that I can say to people is this:
Know what your kids are playing. Abide by ratings. There are so many useful tools out there for parents regarding video games, including reviews and ratings. Its true that many video games are too violent for kids. That's why ESRB rates them for teens or mature audiences.
This is just sad. My son has autism so we try to monitor what games he is allowed to play. We try to get him fun games like Mario games, Donkey Kong, Sonic, games based on kids movies we try to stay away from the violent games. I know some of the mario games can be kinda busy Super smash brother brawl but he is only allowed to play it once a week for 45 mins. We as parents have to learn to use our judgement
I remember doing this as a kid, I don't remember what inspired us to make bag parachutes but it wasn't a video game. Very tradgic but I don't know that it's the game that is to blame here.
Well...when reading the article it says 'may have' so it is not determined that this 9 year old child did indeed imitate a video game...
My daughter is 10 and knows the difference between fantasy and reality!
Also, the game is question is WWE Smack Down vs Raw, this is a wrestling game and as far as I know, no WWE characters jump from the top of buildings with plastic bags.
Thirdly, I wrote the 'anon' response about 'Mary Poppins' and I still believe this. Would the movie 'Mary Poppins' be considered dangerous if the kid watched the movie and jumped off the 13 story building with an umbrella instead of a plastic bag?
Parents need to teach their children not use 'excuses'. *sigh*
IMy 14-year old niece and I read all the Twilight books and saw the movies together. It was fun and I really enjoyed the whole experience. Twilight ain't just for teens! :)
