Do you have tips for new moms who are starting to child proof their homes? What worked best for you to keep your child safe?

The best advice I ever got about childproofing was to get down on your hands and knees and crawl around your whole house. Amazing how all of a sudden, every table, corner, ledge, door, etc..looks dangerous.
Yes I also heard about doing that. It was helpful because it helps you get on the babies level and see the potentially harmful objects in your house. Make sure you get drawer locks and do not have any strings hanging down from the crib. Get socket covers.... and in addition I would recommend getting fire prevention outlets. I mean what is a socket cover going to do if it is on fire. You should also have carbon monoxide detectors in your house.

Fireplace guard. I have a gas fireplace that had a switch just like a light switch. Didn't think about it and didn't even know they had this until I saw my 2 year old flip on the fireplace switch and open the door to the fireplace. Its a metal bar that prevents them from opening the fireplace glass door. You can order them online. I don't know if they carry them at Home Depot or Lowes.
