I was thrilled and scared - we had been trying for some time and had a few miscarriages along the way. Luckily everything worked out fine (twice!)
With my second I was in total shock, I took 8 pee tests!! I then called my DH as he was walking into a meeting and told him. He was like great news but I am walking into that meeting right now. I called my OB and said I was confused because I took 8 pee tests all telling me I preggo. She said fine come in but all I am gonna have you do is pee and tell you that you are pregnant!! I shock wore off quickly and I was super happy.
OMG!!!
I was so happy and went out shopping for pink!! Of course I had 3 boys before I had my girl
I had my children 5 years apart so when one was starting school I had a newborn home
I love babies
I threw up in the bathroom sink.
I screamed and then hugged my husband.
When I first found out, I was 18 years old. My boyfriend had just proposed and I was looking forward to being married just the two of us. When I was late on my period, I took a test praying to god it was just the stress of planning the wedding...but it wasn't. Two lines showed up verifying I was indeed pregnant. I remember sliding down the wall, clutching the stick thinking (believe it or not) how in the heck did this happen...my soon to be walked in and found me sitting on the floor holding the stick and he said "so, are we moving the wedding up"..that was our first response. We moved the wedding up and we were married on my fifth month of pregnancy.
When I first found out I was pregnant with my youngest was from my other son. He told daycare mommy and daddy were having a baby. I picked him up that day and they told me congrats and asked why I didn't say anything. I laughed and said I wasn't. Two weeks later we found out!
I was on vacation in Japan with my husband. It was our big trip before "trying" to have a baby. Turns out I was feeling really tired, I was late a few days and took a pregnancy test and I couldn't believe what I saw 2 pink lines. Of course we were happy, but I was like oh no I just had a whole bunch of raw fish...so a few weeks later would have been better, but we were excited.
My most recent pregnancy was over seven years ago, but I vividly recall my first response in detail.

I was in my second year of nursing school when I came down with this awful virus that had plagued the college. My husband rushed me to the ER after three days of vomiting, scared that I was dehydrated and in need of fluids. It was horrible! I couldn't even keep water down.

They immediately started an I.V. and took some urine and blood for testing. My husband and I waited for what seemed like forever!

Exactly one minute past eternity, the doctor came into the room, closed the door behind him, and proceeded to give us the news.

"Mrs. McCoy, you're not sick . . . You're pregnant! Congratulations!"

My husband and I both looked at each other like, "WHAT?!?" We each had children from a previous marriage, and the thought never even crossed our minds that I could be expecting. It wasn't possible! My husband was told that he was no longer capable of fathering children after the injuries had sustained from a car accident a few years back.

So, we play along.

I hadn't missed a cycle yet, which didn't say much since I had had three normal cycles during the first trimester of each of my first two pregnancies.

He had calculated my due date, based on my last cycle. However, when he performed the exam and did the measurements, he felt I was further along than just three weeks.

"You're more like three months" he said. This is when we finally starting thinking that maybe it was possible.

He had recommended an ultrasound, so we went down the hall to the room where our lives were about to change . . . tremendously! I lied back on the exam table. The technician put the warm gel over my lower abdomen and proceeded with the sonogram.

Of course, I could not see the screen. I don't know why they always position it in such a way that the mother-to-be cannot see what's going on inside her own body.

He started in the center, smeared the gel around a bit, then moved the probe in a slow upwards motion toward the left side of my abdomen. Then to the right. He looked bit confused.

He muttered to himself, "What?"

He moved the probe back to the left side, then swept down and across to the right . . . very slowly, keeping a keen eye on the screen.

"Wow!" He muttered.

"What?" I asked. I didn't recall that expression with my first two pregnancies.

He replied in a perplexed tone, "Uh . . . Two."

Then silence.

After about a minute or so of watching the muddle-headed look on this guys face, I demanded to know what was going on.

"Two? Two what? Two eyes? Two hands? Two feet? WHAT?!?"

He turned the monitor toward us, pointing to two distinct areas on the screen and said, "Two babies! Congratulations, your having twins!"

My husband and I looked at each other and our jaws dropped simultaneously. The whole way home, we're contemplating how we're going to tell our five other kids.

So my first response was complete shock in finding out I was pregnant, then utter amazement that I was carrying two precious little lives inside me. No wonder I was the only one in the house sick with that awful virus, technically known as "morning sickness."
I was scared out of my mind. I had miscarried twins at 10 weeks only 3 months earlier. I was ready to be pregnant again, but so scared. We went to the dr for a blood test because I was scared to take an at-home test. Now I have a oh-so-precious six month old boy!
I had mixed feelings. I was happy because a baby was coming as we had planned. I was surprised that our two-person world came to an end so quickly.
