Then if you are worried, do something about it now, not later. The best thing that a parent can do for their potentially overweight or obese child is acknowledge that a weight problem exists, rather than deny it, make excuses for weight gains or just worry about it and wait until the inevitable.

Just as they did ages ago, children depend on their parents to make the best choices for them that they are able and it doesn't take a lot of money to make these choices, it just takes dedication, a whole lot of love and a smidgen of effort.

One of the best things that you can do is begin to love them a little bit more, while feeding less of the prepackaged, previously prepared and fast foods in exchange for the goodness of your homemade love. Yes I have a new cookbook available at www.themuffinlady.com and will have a supportive blog up before Christmas. And yes the goodness of your homemade love doesn't have to be expensive, as most homemade foods cost less than their prepackaged preferences.

Yet why wait, start taking control of serving sizes and the offering of treats to keep them quiet and busy now ( average serving size is the size of the fist or palm of the person being fed.) IF your child is still a toddler or just about school age, then rather than fill empty time with food, or keeping them occupied with little cereal bits, give them something else (book, toy, crayon) to keep them busy with, or take them for a walk, dance with the little ones to ensure physical activity, play jump rope or anything that gets them up, out of a chair and active.

also know that sweets and treats are a part of being a kid. yet the amount should be limited. For instance cookies are a favorite treat, but an average serving is really only 2-3 cookies per day, not per meal.

Also homemade food, offers you the chance to add more fruits and veggies into favorite foods, making the flavor more enticing. For example you could make a healthier yet scrumptious stuffing for your Thanksgiving meal, simply by adding whole wheat/grain bread cubes, apples, onions, celery and raisins/craisins to the stuffing rather than maybe the common sausage white bread stuffing. And instead of using those salt ladened canned broths, use unsweetened apple juice, it does an exquisite flavor, plus a tad of health to the bird.

Lastly stop bribing your kids with food, many parents do so! offer hugs and praise as a reward instead. Hugs and praise help build self-confidence, food only goes to the gut!
The best advise it consult a medical professional like a doctor.
