Real Stories. Real Advice. Real Moms.

So we all know that Wal-Mart stock is doing well and business is booming while most of us hope we can hang onto our jobs...So why don't we all go work for Wal-Mart?

There has been some interesting discussion in the Fashion Finds group about this on the small town boutique article, so I just couldn't help but add it to the discussion board.

My girlfriend (who might even be reading this) absolutely detests Wal-Mart, but still ends up shopping there on occasion...muttering through her breath up and down every aisle, trying not to breathe in the aura of unhappy employees, greed and child labor.

So...where are you on the "I hate Wal-Mart scale"...or for more fun, tell us why you LOVE it! I have to admit that it's a love hate relationship for me. Love that I can get two large containers of detergent for $5 cheaper than my grocery store...and hate that the checkout clerk looks like she's going to slit her wrists.

Hmmm. What's a mom to do?

I like Walmart but it is a distance for me to drive and being disabled that makes a problem. The only thing I don't like about Walmart is that most of their items are from China. We need more stores with clothes and items made in America. Also I don't like that there carts are always dirty and should be sanitized . The prizes are starting to catch up with the other grocery stores. You can never get help when you need it there and when you do, you cannot undersstand what they say.

I'm like your friend. I hate going there. I put it off until I really need diapers and then I go and get whatever else I might need--grumbling the whole way. If I ever have a return, I usually just keep it. I'd rather keep it then stand in line at customer service. The line gets so long, there's only one person working a register, but there's always 5 people that have come and gone without giving all the customers a second look.

Your comment about detergent: I'll solve that for you right now. Shop with Melaleuca and you'll save on every single detergent and cleaner you will ever use...everything is concentrated so you get more bang for your buck, everything is safer for your family and the environment because there are no harsh chemicals (oh and safer for your clothes), AND it's delivered to your door so you don't have to deal with the walking zombies at Wal-Mart. You can shop for everything from cleaners, vitamins, kids' body wash (did you know J & J baby shampoo has formaldehyde in it?), skin care, makeup, Ibuprofen (50% cheaper), bath & body. The company pays you back for telling people. When's the last time Wal-Mart sent anyone a check? Uhhh, that would be never.

Hate it! My sister (who may be reading this) works there and is obsessed with it! If she can't buy it at Walmart, she doesn't buy it. I have always hated it but end up there now and then when I cannot find something I am looking for but most of the time I will call the store first to see if they have it before I step thru those depressing, overstimulating doors. There is a certain grime I feel all over me when I get out. I really couldn't figure out why I hated it so much, just a feeling I got when I would go there. Then I read a blurb that was sent to me about "why some people hate walmart and those who love it" , it went on to tell how those who don't have very high standards set for themselves love walmart and are willing to settle for less...not just in quality but in life. There is a reason why you don't see a lot of wealthy people in Walmart, it's not because they love to waste their money, it's because they have higher standards for themselves and surround themselves with the same type of people. Higher standards, higher goals = higher success! Now, that sounds snobby, which I am not, but think about it...it made sense to me and actually clarified that yucky feeling I always got when I went in there. Walmart is doing well because they are cheaper, but that's just it, they are cheap.
Just my little opinion on the whole thing. Rather funny. We buy our laundry detergent for MUCH cheaper than Walmart along with all my other needs without having to leave my home!

OMG! I absolutly can not live without a wal-mart! While my husand is in the oilfield and we move once a year to follow his job(previously military so we did the same then too) the first question I always ask, "Is there a Wal-Mart close by?" I can buy groceries, toiletries, clothes, jewelery, medicine, garden, vehicle items, toys, and some appliances all in the same store at a decent price. Not to mention my two kids love it and view it as a field trip rather than a borring shopping trip! I do buy my kids name brand clothing on occasion but I do have to admit that I buy a lot more of their outfits from wal-mart because of the price for the quality....hey why not take advantage of the cheaper prices while their young because we all know that they are going to want nothing but the most expensive name brand clothes when their teenagers!! My only beef is that it seems as though in our time of a close depression that Wal-Marts prices have seem to increase. I know that with all the thousands of dollars I've spent over the last year and years beyond that Wal-Mart cannot be hurting that bad for profit! A simple oil change yesterday cost me $47.00 when I payed half that a year ago....Come on Wally-World (as my kids call it) give us Wal-Mart Lovers a break!!!
