For those of you who live in Illinois Im sure you have heard about the new DUI law. If you haven't after the new year the law states that if you get pulled over for 1 DUI you have to put the breathalizer in your car to start the engine. What does everyone think about this?

Personally I think that they should put it in all new cars, so it prevents you from even getting that first DUI, but thats just my opinion.

ooo...I like this and agree with you. I'm next door to you (MO) and I wish they would put this law into effect.

Sad story though: a family in my former community, mom, son and daughter. Mom had been convicted of 4 DUI's. Over Fourth of July weekend, she got drunk, got in the car with her son (6) and daughter (2) (not car seat for the two year old). Had the 6 year old blow in the starter and took off. Sadly she wrecked and the crash killed her 2 year old and badly injured herself and her little boy. The little boy was in the grade that I taught the following school year. He was in another class but since we team taught I did get to teach him for two classes. It was really sad the things he would say. I think of him often.

Which brings up another good point, maybe it won't stop some people, but I definitely think it would help!
I think they need to have it in all new cars and bring it north to Wisconsin
One life saved is worth installing these and making them mandatory in all cars, just like it is mandatory to have an emissions test to keep your license.. It seems like I read every day how a drunk driver either killed themselves or someone else by driving drunk. I live in Wisconsin as well and think that we would definately benefit from a law like this.
I think by putting it in every car, it may penalize those who will never need to test their breath, however, if there are people out there on drugs (that impair driving ability) will that register on a blow test? And is it just singleing out drinkers rights v. druggies?

I agree they should be in all cars. Also the BAC should be 0.00
