Real Stories. Real Advice. Real Moms.

Hello All!

For some time now I have been giving some thought into moving out of the State. I’m a single mother with a little boy and like most people, living paycheck to paycheck. I am truly Blessed that I can provide what I do for my child and myself and I know that Gods is always working in our life. However for some reason I have it in my heart that I should move forward and start fresh, but I really can’t tell if its God or My Emotions. How can you tell the difference? And if I’ am called to move, How do I start? I’m doing my research, but I’m not sure if it’s good enough to make that step. If any of you have similar situations I’d love to hear and get some advice.

Thank You & God Bless!

I have not made a move as a single mom, but I have made a big move with my oft-traveling husband. I also mentor many women, some of them single.

First, you ask how can you tell the difference between God or your emotions. Seek Him earnestly through prayer, His word, and His people. Knowing God will help you know His answers. George Barna writes in Think Like Jesus "Every choice we make is impacted by our perception of who God is." [A book I highly recommend.]

The prayers I think of immediately in your situation are: 1) If this isn't You, Lord, please take this desire for me to move away. 2) If this is You, Lord, where do You want me to move? What is Your purpose for me? How can I serve You and love You and Your people the way You want me to? 3) How will this move impact my children? Help me to have Your vision for my children, Lord, to enable me to meet their needs to the best of my ability.

In this economy, I would not move without a job and a place to live. You also need to research schools and churches and children's programs. Do you have the money saved for a move? It is expensive. How far will you be moving? Will it be easy to visit relatives on holidays or when a member of the family is ill? Do you know someone in the "new" city? Being single is difficult enough, without any kind of emotional support, life becomes much tougher.

If your children's father has visiting rights, that is also something to consider.

My husband and I moved to another state when we had just one child. I knew no one. My husband travels for his job, often overnight 3 to 4 nights per week. We ultimately had five kids and had no relatives for support locally. We got heavily involved with a church and the church became our family.

Again, if you read Barna's book, it will help you walk through the steps to make this decision, and all your countless future ones.

I'm praying for you!

As you know when you pray you must pray the scriptures. When I need direction I always say."Father make your answers plain and clear so that I will always know what you want. Then I wait. 5 Scritpures come to mind for you.
1. For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. Jeremiah 29:11
2. Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3
3. Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights. Isaiah 7:11
4. Therefore the LORD himself will give you a sign. Isaiah 7:14
5. I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go. Psalms 32:8

I believe God helps those who help themself.
What do you want out of life and ask your self a question,Are you running away from something or running to a new life?
You don't want to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire.
If it is to better your life there are things you need to do.
Do you have a job where you want to move to?
A place to live?
Family or friends where you want to move to?
It would be wonderful to hop in the car like they do in the movies and start fresh, but you have a little boy who needs his Mom to watch out for him.
I feel life is a adventure and we are here for a short time.
Take the time to look at different places ,check out the cost of living, apartments or even houses because you may find a great deal. Look at the job market in the area and start placing your resume.
You may find it will bring you happiness. Also , paying bills is something you are going to do anywhere you live. I feel ,if God wants you to take a new path, everything will fall into place and if things get to be too much, problems everytime you turn around, then its not.
I hope you find what you are looking for and God keep you safe.
Live your life ,have fun and enjoy watching your son grow into a man

This is something that I truly believe you will know when the time is right. God will lead you down the path that is right for you and your family. I think it is awesome that you are so concerned of how this will affect the "two" of you. Remember to surround yourself with loving people, and God will show you the way! Praying for you as you continue dow this journey called, "LIFE!"
