Real Stories. Real Advice. Real Moms.

I've been revamping my systems lately and finding new ways to organize my agenda and "to-dos'." I've gone through so many systems over the years, depending on what season I'm walking in at the time. When the kids were in school I developed a system to keep track of all the "to-dos" of our busy household. Dr. Mary Manz Simon designed a really neat Family Planner calendar. I still have one more to give away at The Spiritual Mom. How do you keep track of all your kids activities and agendas?

I keep a calendar in my kitchen and in my home office. I also keep everything on outlook at home and at work. So the girls know what their specials, in school, are for each day and for family schedules I have a dry erase calendar that is color coded for each of us.

Thank Kathy! What do you mean by "specials?" Love the color coded idea. My Granny ran a day care in her home and she color coded EVERYTHING--towels, cups, tooth brushes, pencils, comb, nap mats--for the kids she watched. It looked like a rainbow everywhere! LOL

we are really really trying to adopt a one touch system, where the paper is read, the information plugged into my laptop, which has our calendar, and then filed, signed and put back into the binder, or thrown out. The OCD in me demands that my throw out be a file that is monthly, so in fact, the papers are saved fora month, just in case, and then thrown out. All three kids dump their agendas into mommy's chair when they come home. I spend a few minutes going thru them and writing down deadlines for assignments and such, and then prepare them for the next day. I only have three kiids, and if i don;t keep a tight rein on the papers, they drown us. I can' t imagine doing it with more kids! I also have a standup file holder right by my chair, with each child having their own section , colour coded, and i put the papers into their specific folders. the colour coding goes much further, in that their drink bottles, activities on the calendar and everything are colour coded. even their lunch kits. saves me answering the question, which one is mine? now, if only the whole house would shape up and be organized!
