I LOVE summer! My 7 year old is home all day, so my 4 year old has a playmate. Which means I get extra time to work, but it also means I get more done so I have more time to play! :)
Our schedule gets much more flexible in the summer. Usually we get up a little late, mess around for a while, have lunch, the kids head outside and I work. Then, after they come back in I have time to sit down and read with them or doing something else constructive (at least it's constructive SOME of the time. LOL). Then dinner and hubby gets home and we all go out for a walk or to swim....I think I could live like this year-round. :)
well i live in southern ca.we get a magazine out here called kids magazine .it has the best cheap or free things to do or places to go in la or orange county.so we usually pick things out of there to do during the summer and year round
I love summertime too! I love for my kids to be out of school because I miss them during the school year.
Sometimes we stay up late have movie night and camp out on the living room floor with pj's and blankets and pig out!
We usually hang out at the library a lot! Our daughter volunteers there so she knows all the latest news and events regarding free activities, craft extravaganzas, and the latest books for kids. We stay extremely active in the summer with swimming, picnicing at the park, bar-b-queing, going to the zoo, and going on adventure walks around the neighborhood and various trails.
I do not like summer...you either have too much to do or not enough to do. Now that my daughter is 19 and my oldest son is 15, they can help me handle my youngest who is 11.
What really worked the summers they all were under age was attending camp at the local Boys and Girls Club. Drop off early in time for me to get to my daytime and pick up late, etc etc. The children had field trips and extra activities while at B&GC's
Now, my two oldest are working their own "biz" by running a concession stand at a youth and young adult center..while my youngest attends band practice and summer school. This means that someone has to take my "baby" on city bus everyday to summer school and pick him up every other day.
It is mind boggling but it will work out..God help me pay for all these bus passes and bus tickets....
It's been awhile since I had to think about this, but I will give it a shot. We usually had 6-7 kids (our three boys and three or more temporary custody children) and several kids from the neighborhood. I would let them choose a topic that they wanted to know more about --insects, dinosaurs, space etc. We would then research the topic and do all sorts of fun things related to it--crafts, writing stories, putting on plays--whatever they wanted. They were having so much fun that they never figured out that they were learning.

When we had our daughter and purchased our home on Long Island we were focused on having fun times. That’s not always easy. So I compiled all of the activities we enjoyed and those shared by other parents.
I'd like to share a copy of the E-Book I created "Fun Activities For Your Child's Wired Style' with my compliments.
Its filled with fun activities that cost nothing or nearly nothing and are conveniently categorized according to your child's personality wiring or temperament.
Enjoy the summer with your children!

My favorite local museum is the Train Museum in Old Sacramento, CA. My oldest daughter and I love walking through there and both of us are just amazed at the enormous size of some of the trains!

You know the old saying that pregnant women are beautiful? Well, this is my third Christmas in a row of being pregnant! I feel so pretty when I am pregnant (but this is my last time).
I have managed to get my 15 month old daughter to stop breast feeding during the day but can't seem to get her to stop during the night, she screams the house down. I stopped her breastfeeding during the dat by putting vegimite on my nipples i kno...
Thank you for sharing about what it's like to get together with family sometimes. I love my aunt, who we'll be visiting w/ tomorrow, but she never had kids and when she corrects them or has a hard time with their silly antics, I just clam up. She'...
I honestly do not like the war scenes but it definitely is a classic. And other posters are right. Carol Burnett is all I can think about when I see the curtain scene
