Tell us how you "go green" in your family and you'll be entered to WIN during our Mom's Nite Out event, Thursday May 7, 2009 from 6-midnight ET. We'll announce our WINNERS at 10:30pm ET.
The newest "green" thing we have done is changing all of our surge protectors to CONSERVE surge protectors. When you are done with your electronics you flip a switch that cuts off all the power. No more wasting power on electronics that drain energy even when they aren't in use.
One of the things we have done is change all of light bulbs to energy savers. We also Installed a timer in the bathroom to cut down on shower time, and joined our communities energy saving program in which they came out to our home and gave us some information and tips in regards to other ways to conserve energy etc.
We collect rainwater in our eco-friendly 'rain' barrel to re-use to water plants or the garden, when it doesn't rain. This saves us from having to water using the garden hose. We also use all of our food kitchen waste in the compost pile, and use composted food waste and grass clippings for fertilizer in the garden.
We just replaced every bulb in our house with new CFL bulbs. I've also just recently started composting, trying to reduce our waste more and help our flower beds out.
I go behind my children and turn of lights. Also instead of turning the heat and air down or up, I turn it off when I can and also keep the water heater down. I'm working on more! :)
Our family has increased this year with the birth of our second son and decreased funding due to my hubby loosing his job so we have bought eco friendly products, changed the bulbs, turned the computer off at night, went paperless with most statements, etc.
We unplug everything not in use as much as possible, use CFL bulbs to replace bulbs when they burn out, buy green products as we run out of our other cleaning products and buy locally grown produce as much as possible. Also, we recycle and have for years!
And I said to them cast away the detestable things your eyes feast on, everyone of you and do not defile yourselves with idols of Egypt:I am the Lord your God, Ezekiel 20:7...program director at large...that the network disregards...for free will...
