Home school, public school, private school, as long as your child is thriving and learning it is your choice. I am grateful for freedom of choice.

Home Schooling can be very good for some and very bad for other's it allows a great place for abuse to happen hide and continue. There are postives and negitives to both situations. Hence there are "bad People" on the way to school or at school" As parents we know there is no easy button. If there was there would be no bad people or bad parents I am glad you found a great thing that works for your family!!

Rosemarie,

I actually just started homeschooling and I must say, my daughter is busier than ever!

She takes piano lessons, does Girl Scouts, has church youth group, and goes to the YMCA a couple of times a week. The Y also has a youth group.

If she were attending school, she would not have time for all these activities by the time she got home from school, did homework, chores and ate supper.

If you really think about it, 1/2 the time they spend in school is moving from class to class, settling down in class, and listening to the teacher holler at the kid that won't settle down. There's very little time left for teaching or classwork. Any "work" is usually done at home, hence "homework."

And, they only socialize during lunch, and then they are socializing ONLY with kids around their age! What about learning how to communicate and get along with younger & older people, too? Everyone comments on how social my daughter is.

Plus, homeschooling kids consistently do better on state acheivement tests, and SAT's.

It's not for everyone, but it is something to think about.

no offense leslie, none at all really, but why homeschool? dont u want your kids to enjoy all that schools can offer? and what about them having school friends and gym and looking forward to a prom?(ok i went too far ahead w/that one) besides this gets kids ready socially dont you think?

for johnnia, and her first grader. is he getting like one piece of paper of homework mon-fri? if so i think that's good. but if he's bringing home four or more that is way too much and u should take to his teacher about that.

Good morning! I a new to this group and I hope that I can make friends with people who are having the same "struggles" in life. My son is in the first grade and we have homework every night. How much is too much homework for a first grader?
