5th of November

November 5th, 2009 will be one of those days that I never will forget where I was or what I was doing. In ways, it reminded me a lot of my thoughts and fears of September 11, 2001. It brought back images of desperately searching for information, hoping it wasn't what you thought it was, and praying for those families affected.

Yesterday was just horrific! It certainly changed so many people lives directly and indirectly.

I'm still in shock as to what happened yesterday at Ft. Hood Army Base. Lives were taken and people injured from this horrific ordeal. Something like this should've never happened on a military installation ever. I mean just to hear on the news that it was actually one of ours killing and hurting his own just baffles me. Not only he was active duty, but was also a psychologist to help other active duty members for some kind of trauma. What he did was inexcusable and he most definetly be serivng time in the Brigg and then maybe transferred to a civilian prison. No other soldiers life needed to be taken away or someone else being injured due to someone who didn't want to leave for deployment. All my thoughts and prayers are for the families and other active duty members there at Ft. Hood.

Send your left over halloween candy to troops for free. Even get paid $1 per pound from local participating dentists. This is soooo cool! Click below to find out if a dentist in your area participates.

Hey Krista

Im praying for your brother David, that God will always keep and bless him. It is wonderful you thought of our soldiers and wanted to send something. If one of them were able to open that note from you and your daughter I know it would have warmed their heart.

God bless
Margie

Hi Margie. I just read your comment and how it touched my heart. Last christmas, I told my children about some of the military people who had been hurt and who were at a hospital. My daughter, who was 3 at the time went right to work at started coloring and drawing and just scribbling on paper. I wrote a little message on the bottom of each paper, put them in envelopes and sent them off to "A wounded military person" at Walter Reed Medical Center. But, a week and a half later, all envelopes had been returned to us saying that they cannot open due to security reasons. I'm glad that there are people in the world like you to lift someone's spirit. God Bless You!

Hello all

My name is Margie and my husband is on the brink of retirement from a 20 year enlistment in the US Navy. This time is bitter sweet for us. Though we are happy he wont have to worry about being deployed again, we also feel like we are leaving someone behind. We know there will still be wives, husbands, children, mothers, fathers etc who will miss a loved one deployed or away from home. Being a family with four kids, my husband and I decided it was in our familys best interested for me to be a SAHM. With this choice I still needed to find a way to supplement our income. I earnestly prayed for God to show me what I could do. I will never forget in February 1999 I typed in the word "coupons" on my pc , leading me to a website that turned out to be the answer for us. I havnt looked back since. Using coupons, and searching out the best deals has helped our family afford many vacations and so many other things we would not have been able to afford on his salary alone. With my husbands retirement and our desire to be continually supportive of our military members, we are sending care packages to troops whom I know or have been made known to me while they are deplyed. Some may be surprised how so many of our guys/girls are deployed and no one even sends them a card while they are away. Mail call comes and their names are never called. My husband made me promise to mail him something every other day while he was deployed, even if it was a scribble from the kids. He never liked walking away from mail call not being called, and always felt bad for the guys who did, he explaines it as a long and lonely walk back to the berthing, there were some who never even went to mail call as they knew they would not hear their name. I always packed extra in his boxes for him to share and I took special requests from those who never received anything. They started to become excited when my husband's name was called (LOL). Couponing makes this easy for us, Im not concerned about the shipping cost...I can find excuses to buy things I dont need, so I will now consider this something I do need. My family is excited, we will have a gathering with friends in Dec when we will send out lots of pkgs....we plan to send one to every name we have. Im blogging about our countdown and each package I send...

Hi ladies!!! My name is Krista and I am a SAHM to Hanna who is 4 and Zack who is 2. My brother, David is in the Marine Corps. He just returned a few weeks ago from his 2nd tour in Iraq. We are so glad that he returned to us safely. My brother and I have always been close- we're only 12 months and 11 days apart. So it was hard not having him around. We're hoping that he doesn't have to do another tour. I hope everyone on this page is doing well and God Bless America and our troops!

My daughter is in the navy, she is now a petty officer. Amy is now on her third deployment. On her last deployment in May of 2008. She sent her daughter with the father, giving him power of attorney to care for her daughter Aniya Bodea-Jones. The power of attorney was stated to end on Dec 1, 2008. For the time, she was away only. She was and is not married to the young man, nor is he listed as father of Aniya. My daughter is still trying to get her daughter back. This man lives with his parents, and has since been to jail for grand theft, and is unable to keep a job. But He has filed for full custody in Maryland. My daughter is still trying to get her baby (3yrs. old) back.
I just don't understand, how this can happen.....does anyone have any advise. My daughter is due to come back in Oct. 2009. All she has ahead of her is more court case, what ever the laws are in Maryland. But he may get full custody of her child and that's not fair.

Hi everyone. My husband is in the military. The Army Reserves. We have been married for 7 years. At the end of the year he is being deployed. This is the second time he has been deployed since we have been married. This will be the first time in my life (I'm 45) that I have ever been alone. Both of my kids have moved out. My daughter is in Texas ( her husband just joined the army) and my son lives in Columbus. Wow, I'm going to have to keep myself busy. I don't mind some alone time but a whole year. I'm sure I will be doing alot of twittering and chatting.
