Happy belated Mother's Day hugs to everyone! Saturday was a combined book signing with fellow authors at Barnes & Noble, and today was the official Mom's Day for me (a massage). In between I'm packing for this weekend and then France. My French is absolutely horrible, so I'm going to mix it up with my Italian and see what happens! :) I have my language map, so maybe I'll just point!

Good for you Dorothy! You will be amazed how your life, your story, and your words will affect breast cancer survivors who need to hear exactly what you have to say.

Weekend of Hope has to be on everyone's list next year; I think Yvonne Ortega loved it so much I may have worked myself out of a "job." :-)

A friend of mine just penned a song about breast cancer and Matt Goss just put her words to music. If I can figure out how to link the song, I'll share it with you tomorrow.

HUGS!

You never know whose life you may touch by reaching out to others as you are doing Dorothy. That is indeed how we can heal the world. One heart, one life at a time. Bless you for the gifts you are giving.

I recently became a speaker for Susan Komen and just had my first opportumnity to share my story the event was as meaningful for me as the ladies we spoke with. Sharing our thoughts and information we learn daily is so important to other women who worry and wonder what they can do to reduce their risk. This site is wonderful and supportive to so many of us who continue to pray that as days past Breast Cancer and alll other cancer become a thing of the past. We hope for more reseach and what we can do to keep them working for all of us.

Patty, thanks for bringing attention to the aromatherapy article in Breast Cancer Wellness. The magazine is free and you can also read it online.

I spend half my time in Bath and Body and love their aromatherapy (spearmint and eucalyptus). It's for stress relief, but it makes me want to write, write, write!

And on that note, I'm taking a break from writing my Moms of Sons' book to take a trip to France (yep, that's right--who knew?!). It was on my passionate to-do list for years to see Paris in the springtime, so away I go with some girlfriends! Poor hubby, he's staying home.

And thanks, Patty, for reminding us to be the "captain of our own ship." I came home from speaking at a cancer conference in Nebraska and couldn't find my credit card. I nearly flipped, but while looking for that I found a gift certificate for a spa that was given to me during Breast Cancer Awareness Month (just about ready to expire!). Now, who does that sort of thing?!? So I quickly made an appointment for the entire day (starting with a facial and working down to my toes!).

I did not make it to the Weekend of Hope this year, but I'm sure it was glorious. Instead we made it to my son's Parents' Weekend (the first time in four years); he will be graduating on May 16 from Grove City College. It's a day I thought I would never see, and now it's here! I can check that one off my list.

Denise, you have a lot of celebrations lined up. Savor each moment and take time to smell the roses!

HUGS TO ALL OF YOU!

9th Annual
Stowe Weekend of Hope
Friday, May 1, 2009 - Sunday, May 3, 2009
Stowe, Vermont

A celebration of life and learning for cancer survivors and those who love them.

About the Stowe Weekend of Hope

The Stowe Weekend of Hope is an annual forum for education, enlightenment, and recreation for cancer patients and survivors with any type of cancer and their families. The focus is to inspire, educate, and celebrate the lives of people living with cancer. This unique event addresses the complex challenges and needs of people with cancer at any stage in their disease. Cancer presents families with many challenges – physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial.

This year, from May 1-3, the Stowe Weekend of Hope will present nationally renowned oncology specialists from around New England, as well as leading oncologists and researchers from the Vermont Cancer Center, and the University of Vermont and Fletcher Allen Health Care Division of Hematology and Oncology, who will present free lectures and seminars on the latest findings on cancer prevention and treatment.

In addition, the weekend will offer supportive mechanisms for healing, comfort, spiritual enlightenment, and communion. These include hands-on workshops, informational and support group gatherings, retail environments supportive of healing and growth, sporting opportunities and time for relaxation, as well as inspirational musical events, ecumenical services, and motivational talks designed to heighten the emotional experience of healing and growth.

Lodging Accommodations

The Stowe Weekend of Hope offers complimentary rooms to cancer survivors on their first attendance. Many of the lodging establishments donate their rooms for the weekend. We will place you in one of over a dozen properties in the area, and will notify you of your lodging one week prior to your arrival. There are no changes to the complimentary lodging once it is determined. If you would like to secure and guarantee a specific location in advance, or if you are a returning guest to the Stowe Weekend of Hope, then you may purchase your room at a discounted rate established for the weekend. Space is limited, so register early.

Weekend Fees and Registration

The Stowe Weekend of Hope is a free event for cancer survivors. We do ask for a $50 refundable lodging deposit, which we encourage you to donate to the Stowe Weekend of Hope so that we may continue to offer this amazing retreat experience to other cancer survivors in future years. There is an additional cost for the Friday evening desserts, and all meals are the responsibility of the participants.

Registrations and complimentary lodging are available for first-time attendees on a first come, first served basis. The complimentary lodging has quickly filled up in past years, but a discounted rate for lodging is available if you wish to guarantee a specific location or room. If you would like to guarantee and pay for a room, please call 1-800-GO-STOWE. All participants MUST register for the event.

Ladies, it's still not to late to register for the Weekend of Hope in Stowe, VT (free to first time attenders). www.stowehope.org. Normally, I teach "Writing to Heal" and "Writing to Publish," but alas we will be attending my son's Parents' Weekend at Grove City, followed by his graduation (a day I thought I would never see!).

I spoke at a conference this past weekend and met a cancer survivor who was node negative, Stage I and had a recurrence in her bones at year seven! It really shocked me (to the bones!). The oncologist gave her 3-5 years! It was incredulous! How dare an oncologist give a time frame on that. I know BC survivors living 20-30 years with bone cancer. Interestingly enough, she was ER/PR positive and her oncologist did not give her the option of taking tamoxifen and have her ovaries out (at age 36). Very interesting. Anyway, they are surpressing her ovaries with medication, giving her tamoxifen, and bone infusion therapy. I'm thankful that I had my ovaries out 13 years ago and took five years of tamoxifen. I wouldn't have done anything differently. Although my heart grieves for this young mom with young teenagers!!!

On a brighter note, it's still not too late to sign up for the Weekend of Hope for Cancer Survivors www.stowehope.org. I'm sending my replacement this year, Yvonne Ortega, for "Writing to Heal" and "Writing to Publish"--you will enjoy her! Go to www.stowehope.org for more information (May 1-3). It's free for first time attenders. Stowe, Vermont is gorgeous and you will have a splendid time connecting with other survivors. I highly recommend it!

Hugs to all of you. I will be attending my son's graduation from college in two weeks (a day I thought I would never see), and attending Parents' Weekend on Friday. Yeah!!!! :)

HUGS!
