My mantra is balance, balance,balance.
It;s interesting that this topic is up for discussion as I;m going to be putting together a nutrition class for my patients.
Much controversy over food and such and you can go from one extreme to the other with diet.
I agree 100% with everything you;re doing Connie. I would add nuts and seeds as well. I cook with olive oil and I stay away from butter and margarine and use a product called earth balance.
Certain spices such as tumeric, basil, rosemary are very healing as well.
I tend to go with goat yogurt , less stuff in it and try to keep dairy to a minimum . It does something to colon which is our truly cleansing organ. But alas, I do it all with my mantra as I feel you must enjoy some of lifes great foods. Mine happens to be ice cream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just LOVE it.
One step at a time as changing food habits that have been lifelong takes time and learning new ways. Gentle and easy does it.
I love aromatherapy as well and lavendar was highly recommended to me as it is antitumoral and a tissue regenerator. I love the smell as its so relaxing to breathe it in. It also can be used as a deodorant and I sometimes rub it all over my breasts. At least ladies stay away from deodorants with aluminum and other unsafe ingredients.
I bless the food I put into my mouth- a quick and simple positive thing we can surely do. I may say , Bless this food and may it nourish and keep my temple healthy and well. Just by stating this you are putting positive energy -which foood is into your wonderful body. works wonders.

Hi Ladies,

I've been missing in action again; I've been out of the country. But I'm interested in this debate about cheese or no cheese! I saw a nutritionist when I was first diagnosed and I have pretty much stayed with it (all things in moderation, I say!). I drink lots and lots of green tea, fresh fruits and vegetables, and a Swiss mix (muslix) for breakfast with strawberries and blueberries. No red meat (ever!). Lots of fish (three times a week), and no poultry unless it is organic. Basically, I eat green!

Having recently been in Europe, I took note of what people eat and what they do. The Europeans have it right: eat a healthy breakfast, main meal in the afternoon, and light dinner. Lots and lots of walking (I mean lots!!!!). But one thing I noticed, which hasn't changed since I lived there 22 years ago...they smoke! It's so discouraging to see a beautiful young woman turn around with a cigarette in her mouth. I guess that's -- in part -- how they stay so skinny.

My mantra is this: Moderation. Moderation. Moderation.

Don;t get that you can have milk and yogurt but no cheese. I eat minimum dairy products for a few reasons. Hormones injected in cows go into milk and probably cheese and that is not great for us gals. If I am going to eat yogurt I do goat yogurt as it goats supposedly aren;t fed the junk cows are. Cows and dairy are a BIG business so feed them hormones and antibiotics to make them produce more. Our gut or colon area is a huge part of our immune system which is what wards off foreign things that our in our body such as virus, bacteria and yes cancer cells. So keeping our gut clean and healthy is very important.
Fresh fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds are important. No hydrogenated oils ;in other words olive oil is a great choice.
Lots of info out there on nutrition and people are just coming to understand that what we put into our body is what fuels it. So what we put in feeds our garden and helps it grow!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I;ll be interested to hear back from you Denise about the cheese.
I love cheese too and will splurge every now and then for a treat. I believe balance is key. My favorite treat is ice cream , yes milk product. And I have that when I desire too. I;m good but not that good. There;s just some things I must have,

????? So has anyone else been told NO cheese? I am not understanding this. I go tomorrow and will ask but do you know how hard it is NOT to have cheese? it is in everything. If it is the fat issue why not say no dairy? he said I can have milk and yogurt.

Denise,

How great to hear you need a haircut. Good sign! As far as appointments go, it seems as though they ruled my life for the first five years. And I remember thinking, "Will I always be carrying my reports/x-rays around with me?" I learned that trick early on because I would arrive at an appointment and they never had my reports. Argh!

Yes, sun does make you tired. We just returned from California to visit my folks and long walks in the sun caused me to fall asleep as soon as my feet landed. Exercise is good and you will start enjoy it more as winter gives way to spring.

Keep on keepin' on...one day at a time! You are loved and prayed for daily!

HUGS!

update: well..........Oncology says I need a hair cut. Guess that is good. HA! I dont think it is long enough but they say it will be healthier and grow faster. Maybe get it cut tomorrow. Monday got a call from Oncology, echo had a slight differance from last make an appointment with a cardiologist. I AM SO SICK OF APPOINTMENTS! anyway........Make an appointment which was for tuesday (they had someone cancel) he says he thinks things are fine not to worry but lets do a mugga scan before next herceptin. Make that appointment for friday. I show up and the girl says "Didnt you cancel?" NO! well they have me down for a cancel so they dont have the meds needed so I have to come back! This is 45 min away from me! My sister took the day off because I couldnt watch her daughter and now I have to go back again. I am so not happy. So this week 3 days are shot! Monday mugga, wed herceptin and thursday surgeon. ALL at least 45 min away so the entire day is shot.
Other then all that I am doing good. VERY tired today not sure why. Going to get outside where it is warm for the 2nd day in a row. Maybe it was too much fresh air that has me so tired?! who knows. Anyway. Hope everyone is well.

How are you defining "big families" for the purpose of your study? In some respect that's all relative, as some people consider 4 kids to be a big family and others not till there are 8 kids, or somewhere in between.
