What a weekend -- our 34th wedding anniversary and my son, Jon, got engaged to his college sweetheart with a May 30, 2010 wedding! That was one of the things I wrote on my passionate to-do list of 27 things I wanted to do after I was diagnosed -- to see my boys through safe passage into adulthood and to see one of them get married! It's here -- 13 years later!!!

I agree with Patty -- I believe you are a survivor the moment you hear the words, "you have cancer." And set a Celebration of Life Day (mine is the day of my surgery -- April 12). My husband planted a pink dogwood tree and now 13 years later it is a huge, gorgeous tree. Although we have moved from that house, I still retain visitation rights! :) It's important that we build monuments along the way and celebrate the BIG and the small moments.

Denise: You have some celebrating to do!!! Congratulations on your one year anniversary. It's the most difficult year by far and you made it!!!

Suzette: Wherever we are on this journey called "breast cancer," we have a message to share with others. We are here for each other!

HUGS TO ALL OF YOU!

Suzette;
Your comment reminded me of a patient at my clinic many years back who had some rare, unique type of cancer. She was looking for a group to meet with who had her same diagnosis but there was nothing local.
Yes, that perhaps can be a challenge but the most support i think anyone needs is to not feel alone, to be able to openly share feelings with others and to be validated and heard.
In a group setting, in a wonderful environment such as this, wherever you feel hope, and love is where i know i would want to be.
so it think you fit in here just fine!!!!!!!!!

Bravo Denise! You Go Girl! Did you do something extra special to celebrate one year? You should, something that you can look back on. Plant a tree, lay a rock, I don't know, but something that absolutely shouts "Look at what I have done, and am CAPABLE of!!!".
I just wish I were more certain of where I am supposed to fit in. Breast cancer cells, but not in the breasts. Its all very strange.

Denise;
Congratulations to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you see how strong and resilient you are. That is what amazes me time and time again. I have watched you transform into a true inspirational woman who will offer her gifts and knowledge to others traveling a similar but different journey. We collectively touch, heal and guide one another. We are so blessed to all be connected .

Thanks Patty and Connie.
I am awaiting surgery on my arm to put a metal rod in it. after that I will have some radiation, though the surgeon still says that they are flipflopping on my diagnosis. It nice to know that there is a safe place to come and talk.

Are you in the mood for a PINK Vespa? Well, the Army of Women with Susan Love is asking for your support. If you recruit women for the cause between now and November 23 (to join the army to find a cure for breast cancer), you could be the winner.
Details for entering the contest and recruiting women are found at the the Army of Women website.

I have participated in two of the studies thus far in the Army of Women and it does my "heart" good to know that I am helping other women, so in the future no one will have to hear the words, "you have breast cancer."

Thinking pink thoughts!
