The song by Shirley Ceasar No Charge. I just have to post the lyrics for you all to read. We used to listen to this one coming up (maybe mom was trying to tell us something :) It's an oldie but goodie
My sister's little boy came in the kitchen one evening
while she was fixing supper
and he handed her a piece paper he had been writing on
and after wiping her hands on an apron
She took it in her hands and read it
and this is what it said:
For mowing the yard $5
And for making up my own bed this week $1
For going to the store $.50
And playing with little brother while you went shopping $.25
Taking out the trash $1
And for getting a good report card $5
And for raking the yard $2
Total owed $14.75
Well she looked at him standing there and expecting
And a thousand memories flashed through her mind
So she picked up pen and turned the paper over and this is what she wrote:
For the 9 months I carried you holding you inside me $ NO CHARGE
For the nights I sat up with doctored you and prayed for you $ NO CHARGE
For the time and tears and the costs through the years
There is NO CHARGE
When you add it all up the full cost of my love is $ NO CHARGE
For the nights filled with grey
And the worries ahead
For the advice and the knowledge
And the costs of your college
$ NO CHARGE
For the toys, school, and clothes
And for wiping your nose
There's NO CHARGE son
When you add it all the full cost of my love is NO CHARGE
Well you know when I think about that
I think about the day that Jesus went out to Calvary and gave his life as a ransom for me
When I think on the words "If Any Man be in Christ He's A New Creature"
I like to think about the very minute that he shedded his blood
My debt was paid in full
And I want you to know today
when you add it all up
The full cost of Real Love is NO CHARGE
Mine is definitely "You Inspire Me" by Skye Dyer. This song played at my wedding and the moment my daughter was born, so it is quite special. It captured both big events so well!
I read a bunch of other posts, mine is not so sweet. I love "So What" by Pink. It shows my kids that Mom can still rock with the best of them. We really enjoy cranking this one up in the good old minivan and singing along at the top of our voices, I call it bonding.
It sure the heck beats Raffi or any of the other kid "music" out there!
"Little Girls" from the musical Annie, in case your not familiar:
Little girls
Little girls
Everywhere I turn
I can see them
Little girls
Little girls
Night and day
I eat, sleep and breathe them
I'm an ordinary woman
With feelings
I'd like a man to nibble on my ear
But I admit no man has bit
So how come I'm the mother of the year?
Little cheeks
Little teeth
Everything around me is little
If I wring
Little necks
Surely I will get an acquittal
Some women are dripping with diamonds
Some women are dripping with pearls
Lucky me!
Lucky me!
Look at what I'm dripping with
Little girls
How I hate
Little shoes
Little socks
And each little bloomer
I'd have cracked
Years ago
If it weren't for my
Sense of humor
Some day I'll step on their freckles
Some night I'll straighten their curls
Send a flood
Send the flu
Anything that
You can do
To little girls
Some day I'll land in the nuthouse
With all the nuts, and the squirr'ls
There I'll stay
Tucked away
'Til the prohibition of
Little girls.
My number one favorite is A Mom's Overture (http://tinyurl.com/dxtqs9) but I wholeheartedly agree that I Hope You Dance is such a sweet song and always chokes me up.
The song I sang to my babies was You Are My Sunshine because that is what my mom sang to me.
