What I most want to know from my daughter when she becomes a teenager: Are you happy? What are your dreams? Do you feel pressured by your friends/boyfriend/girlfriend? Do you feel like you can talk to me about anything without judgment? If not, what can I do to change that? Do you know that I love you?
Oh such a sweet prize. So from a daughter's text messenger, I'd love to hear about which guy is capturing her heart and what's bothering her the most. I'd want to know what was marking her uncomfortable and what I could help her with to be more comfortable and confident.
hmmm..that's 9 and 12 years away but if i could ask from the teenage girl inside my babies i'd wonder:
are you enjoying your teenage years?
is it everything you wanted them to be?
do you feel like you can trust us?
if you were in trouble would you know that you can call us and no questions asked we'll be there ASAP to get you?
have you found true friends?
Well - I have a teen and I have a child who is not even close. From the teen I have now I would love to know if he is happy - truly happy. My teenager is a quiet kid and very private. He is loving and affectionate, a great son and a wonderful brother but he had to grow up a bit fast when his dad left. From my little one who is only 5 now I'll want to know if he is staying out of trouble and being the best person he can be. He just recently started meds for ADHD and his track record at pre-k has been spotty up until this point. I just want him to be a successful young man. I worry about him.
Okay, enough of that - let's get this party started!
I don't have teens yet but I work really closely with the teenage girls in our neighborhood so I have a pretty good idea of what I'll want to know. What I want to know now is why they are so hard on themselves and think so low of themselves when they are so incredibly beautiful and talented.
And someday when my boys are teens I'll be asking them how they feel about themselves. And I'll be asking "Why didn't you open her door? You get back there and do it right!" ;)
My kids aren't teenagers yet, but the one thing I'd want to know from them is if they were ever felt bad about themselves or had insecurities. Low self esteem can be so damaging to a teenager and I'd want to be there to help anyway I could.
What I most want to know:have I done a good job,do you always respect the law?and be kind to people ,do you treat others how you want to be treated? Are you working hard to achieve you goals?
As the mom of 3 teenagers I hope they are happy. I want them to have fun but then I remember some of the things I did at their age and wonder are they doing that or are they going to. I want them most of all to make great friendships to last a lifetime. To be honest and trustworthy.
I am a mom to teenagers, 3 in the house, 2 now out of the house - total of 5! I keep an open relationship with them, open discussion, I am mom, always got your back, may not always like your choices, but love you anyways MOM. I would most want to know if they find themselves in a bad situation or trouble. That they know (and they do) they can call me no matter what - find me - tell me. We are talkative bunch, I know about the "firsts" with the older girls, I know about the boyfriends, now and past tense, I know a lot and I'm grateful that my kids and I have that kind of relationship. I know I don't know it all - did my parents when I was their age - NOPE - but I hope I know enough.
