I had a tubal ligation in 1981. I was young but had a son and was remarrying and WE had decided that raising my son would be enough for us. I had the surgery and was sent home that day. Through the summer, I experienced what would have been considered "pregnancy symptons(nausea, moodiness, breast tender) I was told by my doctor that I had "tubal ligation symdrome" and it was an emotional response to sterilizing myself.
Four monthes later, after my wedding, I still had not had a period and went back to the doctors. YEP...I was 16 weeks pregnant! I had a understandably tremulous pregnancy, but it was almost half over.
Story short....I had a perfectly healthy baby boy.....27 years later, he is a sucessful artist and the jewel of our lives. I believe that he was "meant to be"regardless of the circumstances. I could have terminated the pregnancy as suggested by healthcare professtionals, but knew that there was something greater then us at work.
I realize now many years later that my "purpose" in life was to have this child, nurture his creative talents and bask in the joy of his life.
Added comment....when I was pregnant, I also knew another woman who had a tubal and also was pregnant. Our boys ended up going to school together and were great childhood friends.
Lesson learned-Sometimes gifts are given to us and we don't realize them until we are older and wiser.
