I have always been blessed to have my son's grandparents (who are fairly young) help-out a lot. I have also been extremely hands-on with my son. He's never really had to go to a sitter or had a nanny. There are days when I wish I had a nanny, just to alleviate some of the stress, or sit with my son so I don't have to keep dragging him with me to the store.
I admire all those who devote their time to help nurture children. I believe everyone had a maternal instinct, whether they birth a child, adopt a child, or just step-in to care for a child.
Watching the episode of 'In the Motherhood' last Thursday was really fun. The Nannies went on strike because they did not feel appreciated. Of course there was an exaggerated account of their story, but it was still honest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rlg7H_BMu-w
We need to appreciate anyone who is willing to aid our parenting. Kudos to all the parents, sitters, and nannies of the world.
I was lucky enough to have close relatives babysit. I loved that people who really cared watched my children. They took very good care of them. But, to be honest, it wasn't all that often. When they were infants usually one parent stayed with them at all times.
