We start by giving eli a nice warm relaxing bath with johnsons bedtime bath. then we get him out and wrap him up tight in his towel. once hes dry we put him in a diaper and give him a little baby massage with lotion. Then after pjs we climb into our reading chair and read a story while drinking a bottle. by the time we put him in his crib he is almost completely relaxed. He reaches out for his bear and as soon as hes holding it, he rolls to his side and is asleep. :)
My two year old gets a Bernstain Bear book read to him, puts him out every night. Unfortunately my youngest is still in the habit of getting the "boob" to bed.
We have a set routine, dinner, bath, milk, hug, kiss and "good night I love you see you in the morning." He's asleep by 7:00pm. Me on the other hand. I need to not get sucked into the computer or tv or housework after a long day.
We read a story with my son and say his prayer, then lights out. With my daughter, we give her her "dog dog" and lay her in bed, cover her up and turn on her seahorse musical plush, then lights out.
Every night I lay down with my little girl and hug and gently kiss her. I rub her back and she stretches. I yawn and she yawns. It is all about relaxing and stretching and yawning to go to sleep. A relaxing routine helps to fall asleep. We unwind together and sleep comes upon her.
For baby we make a ritual and have her kiss everyone and grab her tigers and off to bed. She is realy good about it.
For us-we exercise every day, try to eat well, and keep our bedroom as dark as possible, cool, and use a white noise machine. They all help. I have found if you eat too late or very salty or sugary foods I do not sleep well.
ditto on the routine until about 12 or 13 and then it can be a teensy bit more challenging. they have to get up so early for school but their clock no longer wants to go to bed early and get up early.
