MEET GROUP LEADER, RP MOM!

RP Mom is constantly on her toes, as the the mother of two amazing kids under the age of five. When her oldest child was born with a number of developmental delays, RP Mom began dedicating her time and energy to helping, educating and, most of all, supporting other moms with similar lives. RP Mom has learned that some of the best advice she has been given is from other moms.

Hi RP Mom,
I also had an older child with special needs. I consider her "My Blessing."

Hello there! I am the mother of two daughters, age 19 and 16. My youngest is paraplegic due to a negligent/drunk driver hitting our car head on when she was three years old. I was also severely injured, however I can still walk. Breanna died at the scene but was revived via CPR by two perfect strangers driving home on the same highway, opposite direction of us. Life has been challenging yet so rewarding at the same time. I started a non-profit to help raise funds for spinal cord injuries (sci) in 1999. www.breannareganfoundation.com I also have a myspace for our story at www.myspace.com/paralyzedatthree. I am happy to join this group and look forward to interacting with you all. Have a great Thursday afternoon!

Thanks RP Mom. Do you read minds? LOL! I have thought of having him do that, but will need to ask his teacher. Some are funny that way. Then that makes me wonder what they are trying to hide. He use to take his tape recorder to class when he was in middle school without a problem. So, I will need to check into that soon. Thanks, I guess I just needed to hear someone else suggest that.

NC - I can speak from personal experience! In high school I did not test well at all. I too was very focus on taking the notes instead of comprehending what the teachers were saying. My Mom was like you -- doing her very best to help me!!! I had an amazing teacher who helped me out as well. She had me bring a small tape recorder to class to record what she was saying. It allowed me to focus more on what she was saying and not so much getting every word she said down. I would then fill in my notes at home with the most important information. I am happy to hear he is flourishing in his art classes!!

Hello Ladies! My name is Teresa also.I am a Mom of 3. A daughter 21 and twin 15 yr old boys that are LD. One, that is doing Fantastic in school and has made the Beta Club. The other is still struggling and shows the signs of just giving up. I try my best to help him study and try new ways to help him study for test, but he has never been one to do good on any type of test. He has a IEP and most of the teachers work to accommodate him in his classes. I am open to any suggestions. He is a teenager now and if anyone has teanagers, they think they know everything. He flourishes in his art classes and other hands on subjects that he is taking. My worries are in the classes that are required and the teachers in his English, civics, and science classes do not teach this way. He is required to take notes, and spends too much time making sure he is writing notes instead of comprehending what the teacher is talking about.
The first 9 weeks are almost over and I want to help him get through these last 9 weeks without failing every test he takes.
