5. hanging out at parks is a cheap and fun thing to do in the summer. I usually try to visit several w/ the kids to change the scenery up. We take lunch, sidewalk chalk, water guns, etc.

My family does red neck cinema in our screened in gazebo. My laptop, speakers and a kid friendly movie before the kids go to bed is heaven in my book. This is a great way to spend family time.
We also, go to the park and local farms early. Around 7:30 before it is too hot and before the crowd. Just as the crowd is getting there we are out.
Indoor picnics when it is too hot is so much fun, with central air and a tent this my kids favorite.
We live on a lake so we go there about 5 times a week.
Summer is out but Mommy school is in full effect. We do tons of worksheets, books and board games. Even though the kids are off of school, kids and moms do better with a schedule. Less stress for everyone.

How are you defining "big families" for the purpose of your study? In some respect that's all relative, as some people consider 4 kids to be a big family and others not till there are 8 kids, or somewhere in between.
