My son is in love with books. Even though he can't read, we have fun with books. He likes to tell us what's going on in the pictures and he loves hearing stories of Harry Potter and even some classics.
I can't wait for him to learn to read and LeapFrog is what I'll buy to teach him. We have some great LeapFrog products that he already loves that are teaching him the alphabet and now he's asking for a LeapFrog Laptop.
Routine is essential in kids going back to school. Sleeping and reading is great for kids. Reading keeps kids in tune with their sight words. And setting up a sleeping patters before school starts makes it easier on every one.
Routine is key. When my children were young this is what I did. About 2 weeks prior to the year beginning, I started getting my children into the routine of going to bed and getting up at the same times that they will once school begins. I also have them go through their clothes to see if they have outgrown anything and help them put together outfits. We then took pictures of them in each outfit, which they put on their bulletin boards. They loved this game of dress-up and it helps them independently get ready for school each morning. (As a former educator, I am big on children becoming independent learners.) Now with grand children, I have passed on some of this sage wisdom to my children and it's wonderful watching them use it.
To gear up for the School year we have been watching the sale paper for back to school supplies and fashion savings . With three children in school this year we need to save all the money we can.
My baby is starting preschool I still can't believe it.
Thanks Tricia
The three most important things IMHO are: reinforcing good nutrition habits, particularly breakfast; re-establishing a schedule, particularly when it comes to bedtime and rising time; and encouraging reading while attempting to make it fun. I also believe that making sure there is both family time and time for a child to play are important. We get so busy and wrapped up with work, household chores, achievement and academic achievement. Our children spend many hours in school, more time on homework. Our kids grow up too fast. While we need to support them and encourage academic excellence, we also need to remember that each child learns at that own pace and needs time to play, explore, learn their place in our families, feel loved and accepted. As parents we need to learn to take advantage of teachable moments and avoid unobtainable expectations.Love our children, encourage them, support them. Remember as parents to do our best to avoid judging them, comparing them, takinf their childhood away from them...
I have been talking to my daughter about what her expectations are about school and what I think it will be like. I also have taken her by the school a few times since it will all be new to her.
I love to read and so do my seven and nine year old little girls, and the best part is, now my two year old little guy is following in there foot steps. He's always shoving books at me and they all three love going to the library. I hope my nine month old little guy will love to read just as much as the rest of us do.
