I have been asked these questions more times than I care to remember. Really. It happens more often than I think anyone would believe. People come up to me in the store with big smiles on their faces and ask me these things. They think they are being nice, complimenting me on my obviously adopted child. They really think that her family history is perfectly good small talk. Not to mention their need to point out to my daughter how different she looks from her mom.
