So, I'm A SAHM, Though Not The Kind I Envisioned.
I had family over for dinner the other night and my aunt, who hasn't seen me since forever, and definitely not this new version of me, asked with true curiosity, if I ever got fed up with my role as a SAHM. In all fairness, I have been at this gig since April of last year...wait...is it almost a year?? Holy Mierda! Ok, sorry, I digress...So, anyway. I told her no. She seemed confused.

- NY City Mama I get you. Your comments were spot on, often an offender does not like to be called on to the carpet. My response:
Bec and NY let me just split it down the middle. Why, because like NY's kids I am mixed. My mother had 6 children when she met my father, together they had me. Without a tan I am very, very pale. It is very interesting what people will say in front of you when they think you are "one of them". Things do happen to all of us for a variety of reasons and some things happen/are said just because of the color of your skin and how the person feels about that color. Like NY my Mother was often accused of being my nanny rather than my mom and all of my siblings from my mother are much much darker than me and I have been asked why do you hand around so many black people. I have been in meetings at work when the discussion will turn to a black employee and the comments have been just plain evil and trust me it was because of their color. What I think is getting old is one person trying to speak for the masses by making excuses or determining that it does not happen anymore. Bec you may not feel that things happen/are said just because of a persons color but I am here to tell you IT DOES still happen. Keep in mind that "a variety of reasons" will always include race, not all the time but more common than not. what I love is the look on a persons face whe they make their little comment and I ....BAM... educate them. The first step to solving a problem is to admit that there is one.
