Peggy it is sad. I agree with you too! Surely there were other adults in this child's life that could have helped her. If the mother wasn't protecting her then you would think other adults would jump in...it kinda falls into the category "it takes...

This is so sad. Where were the girl's teachers ,neighbors ,anyone that could help her . I am stunned that everyone turned a blind eye. What is wrong with us!

No way are you naive Suzette. You're absolutely right! You've raised another great point: things happen inside and outside of the church environment. We stay actively involved with our kids lives too. I think you have to because if you don't stay i...

Four Generations

A few years back (before Alzheimer's disease robbed me from my grandma) stood four generations of women hand in hand. My grandmother, my mother, myself, and my daughter. We had such a great time shopping that day. We laughed and giggled and shopped til we dropped.

But today, I'm at Children's Hospital waiting for my daughter to get out of surgery, while my mother is planning my grandmother's funeral. It's ironic how times changes things.

Grandma slipped into eternity yesterday, and we leave tomorrow to go and be an encouragement to my mother.

My grandmother left a legacy that she passed to my mother, and my mother passed to me, and I in turn have passed to my daughter. That legacy is one that will never fade, will never die, will never be forgotten, and that is the legacy of Christ. The best legacy she could have left us. It is worth far more than any tangible thing she could have left behind.

Thank you Grandma. Thank you for your prayers, hugs, kisses, etc. I miss you, I love you.

A Touch of Takiela: How Can We Protect Our Children?

This morning my sister emailed me a disturbing article that literally made me sick to my stomach. I want to pose the question: We have almost 500 members in our group, surely one of you can advise us on how we can do our part in helping to put an end to this kind of abuse. Maybe someone is a social worker and deals with these types of situations on a regular basis or maybe one of you knows of or belongs to an organization that wants to spread the word about this type of crime and how we can prev… Continue

A Touch of Takiela: Integrity as a Christian in Business

As a Christian in business, I am bound to a different set of principles compared to those of a traditional business owner. For example, my mission statement, the vision for my company, and company name and/or company description all has a biblical foundation. Other business owners may be money, power, or… Continue

A Touch of Takiela: Special Needs Child Part II

When my husband and I first began our journey as parents to a special needs child, we shed more tears than I think either of us had in our lives up to that point. We cried together, we cried separate, we cried when we prayed for our daughter, and we cried when she cried. One night when I put our daugh… Continue

Thank you to all those who flooded me with prayer. I have no doubt that the effectual fervent prayers of the righteous availed MUCH. I would not have made it through without all of the multitude who prayed on my behalf, words cannot express my eternal gratitude. A special thanks to my husband who refused to leave my side during this time of turmoil and to my children who's kisses saturate me with undying love. Finally thank you to my God, who is great, awesome, and perfect strength carried me in my weakest moments.

Eternal God,
Thou Who dost bear us up in our travail,
And who dost comfort us in our moments of weakness,
Be Thou with this one as she suffers;
Grant her relief from this pain,
And give her patience and fortitude to endure to the end.
Wilt Thou give us peace in Thy presence,
In the quiet of the evening may we come unto Thee,
And in the still morning may we dwell in Thy presence.
As Thy glory shineth in the morning sunrise
May we reflect Thy presence by our faith,
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
