MICHAEL JACKSON STILL ALIVE!

My hunch tells me that you’re sick of reading about Michael Jackson’s death – call it my razor-sharp mother’s instinct. But somehow this one little MJ tidbit eluded the media and I found it relevant to share. Well, relevant is sort of a strong word for it. Let’s call it self-serving.

I’ll quickly flash to a month ago when I received the news via text while picking my kids up from camp that Michael had passed. I looked down at my phone, dropped my kids’ tennis rackets and cried. When… Continue

Sleeping with Larry

Jackson (6 yrs.) was invited to a sleepover a couple of weeks ago at Wes’ house. Wes is a nice kid – ‘Wes’ was also a back-up name for Jackson, so, naturally, I like Wes. But after I agreed to the overnight via voicemail, it dawned on me that I had no idea who Wes’ parents were, where they lived or if they had guns, a pool, faulty railings or tantric sex. My good sense had clearly passed out from I get-a night-off-from-one-of-my-kids giddiness. So I did what every good parent would and tried to… Continue

Naked Ladies

It’s true - we have portraits of naked ladies all over our house. And I never think to mention it simply because I forget that it’s a sensitive topic. No, I am not trying to force nudity or art on anyone’s kids - nor am I willingly forcing the ‘what-do-you-call-privates-parts’ conversation on you or your families. It’s usually just an honest oversight.

So this is my blanket warning to you.

If you want to come over for a glass of wine, milk or a mug of Joe’s favorite brew,… Continue

Recycling Parenting wisdom

I’ve never actually met Al Gore, but I’ve always been a big fan, big fan. Which is why I take his whole green initiative to heart. Or more precisely, to home. I mean, we’ve really got to ask ourselves—why stop at global warming? During a time when reusing, recycling and re-purposing is paramount to preserving our planet, we all need to take a closer look at how we can conserve our parenting fuel as well. So now is not the time to expend our precious energy on re-evaluating naptimes, meal times… Continue

I too wanted a girl, unfortunately I got a VERY girly girl, not exactly what I was expecting. She is my joy, and the bane of my existence, and as puberty approches I constantly wish for two of her younger brother, lol.
