I loved this book titled The Girl in the Orange Dress. I was excited to meet the author this past July. Margot Starbuck is one-of-a-kind woman of faith. Gentle, funny, dressed in orange and green and crocs, standing out with her wit and unique style. Her book can be describ…

It's no secret. Women can choose the wrong men in their lives but never understand why. The cycle continues until they come to their senses, learn from their mistakes, or come to grips with their past.
"Smart girls learn from their mistakes," says author and therapist, Deborah Dunn. "The v

"We should live everyday as if it were everyone else's last." Courage of Fear, Barbara Boyer
www.beboyer.com
We became great friends fast, Robert and me. We met through mutual friends sometime after 9/11 (so, if you have read previous posts you understand my state of mind at the time.) He was a tall, lanky guy with hair down to his shoulder blades. His face aged and rutted; you could truly see the life he lived right there defined on his weathered face.
"Idaho Bob" he was called by many; a poe…

I'm all about growing as a mom. I looked for resources when my teen son and I stood toe to toe, trying to work out the conflict that was tearing our relationship apart. I searched for books when Leslie was 10 months old and the doctor said, "Surprise, you're pregnant--with twins!". And now…

The last post featured ways to get in the mood. My favorite way, reading, is so subjective, it's hard to name the book that will do it for you. But I can try. I've learned a lot in my foray into romance, like I really need it to be set in another place or time. Any reminder of kids or pop culture and I'm out. And that even in a bodice ripper, I

I got the book,
I Was a Really Good Mom Before I Had Kids: Reinventing Modern Motherhood by Trisha Ashworth and Amy Nobile, as a gift and was thrilled -- finally the real motherhood! Something about having a baby turned me into a truth-teller. "Love this top? No, I didn't get it at Nordstrom; it's pure T.J. Maxx, baby!"
But when I read this book, I found myself disagreeing with 75% of what the authors said. Really? A maid over sex?
The book is laid out more like a really long magazine a…

I wrote a childrens book with my two neices in it. My youngest neice has Autism. I wanted kids to read this book a see that even tho she is a bit different, she has likes and dislikes. Things that make her laugh and cry. It is easy to ignore or forget those with disabilities.Whats hard is learning who you are and how you deal with it. My neice has come a long way, due in part from her mom and teachers! The book is a tribute to her!

Words fail me when we live in a world where this is not a crime. The Saudi judge Sheikh Habib Al-Habib denied the 8 year old’s petition for the second time, first a divorce and then an annulment. He did make one concession, that the 47 year old husband sign a document that he would n…

On March 16, 2009, my book,
Beth's Search was in print. On June 16, 2009, it will be available on the shelves. I am so excited about this book. It is my first and I learned A LOT about the process of writing. When I started, I thought, "I will write it and someone else will do all the work." I was definitely wrong. First of all, I am really bad at grammar. As you will see as you read the book. In fact, I am running a contest. If you count all the errors in the book, send it to me via e-ma…

This book was recommended by a friend who promised it was not the typical parenting book. She was right! Jenna McCarthy gives us a hilarious, true account of pre-pregnancy through the toddler years. Years ago, I read as many parenting books as I could get my hands on. Just like Jenna, my experience seemed different than those reported. As I shared with friends, I realized the other authors were either just really lucky with their experience or were lying. To top that off, they certainly didn't h…

Recently my 4th grader became so interested in a book that she didn’t want to put it down. She read any chance she got. When she completed her homework, instead of turning on the TV, she sat on the couch to read. I was thrilled! I live for books like that. I had tried explaining this passion so many times but she just didn’t get it. Now she does, thanks to Tall Tales and the author, Karen Day.
When Taylor finished reading the book, I told her she should write to the author and tell her how much…
