My grandmother was a breast cancer survivor. She had a mastectomy at a time when I was too young to even understand what that meant. I am now 38 and acutely aware of what it means as we honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My grandmother outlived her cancer, dying of natural causes, and I know many of you who are taking care of your elders or dear friends are praying for the same outcome.
Not too long ago I was introduced to a few remarkable women who created the TNBC foundation in honor of a d…

I am sitting here, trying to decide what I should talk about today. And what happens? Yup, many random things are crossing my mind. So it's anyone's guess what will make it from there to here by the time I am done.
"I have tough news for you." Something NO one wants to hear in their life, something most of us do hear and most likely it will be something life changing. I heard those words over 7 years ago. I was just going through life, bitching about the things we normally do. And one day, it a…

So first entry blogging...what took so long? I have always liked to write and I tend to be outspoken, seems natural to blog then, doesn't it? So my excuses...not enough time, too tired, no one will read what I write...you know the usual. But something told me to get busy, write those thoughts....yes, the Random Musings!
The trouble is what do I start with? Lord, I have had the life experiences, so I should never run out of material. They started wayyyyyyy back when I was 4! Yup. FOUR. My father…

Sometimes I can be such a fool. Not that people attempt to dupe me into things. It’s just that I can become blinded by a situation and make poor decisions, but then again, hindsight is 20/20, isn’t it?
Like when we purchased our house. It was a prerequisite for me in order to move forward with trying to conceive another child. Along with the dated, 2-prong electrical outlets strategically…

In my last post, I encouraged you to
protect yourself and your family from the sun as much as possible, limiting exposure, and wearing a safe, mineral-based sunscreen every day. So what’s a fair-skinned girl to do – forgo any hint of a summer glow? I know that I don’t want to be a shade of shocking white when I hit the beach this summer - so, what’s the alternative?
Hit the tanning bed of course – okay, just kiddin…

It has been almost two years since I last worked in a hospital. Two years since I donned a pair of scrubs and draped a stethoscope around my neck. Two years since a decent paycheck was direct deposited into my account. And although the past two years have been priceless while watching my daughter grow, I am still often reminded of the world of medicine.
Throughout most of my nursing career I was not a parent. So it was common for me to receive doubtful stares and odd glances from parents of my…

Today is one year since I woke up from my surgery for Ovarian Cancer and my life would never be the same again my diagnosis was Stage 3-b and I would begin six months of chemo therapy in the next few weeks loose my hair become fatigued and pray the cancer would go into remission. Wow, it has been almost a year since my breast cancer diagnosis last year. In that one year's time, I had 5 surgeries including 2 biopsies, a lumpectomy followed by a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction and then implants. If you look at me today, you would never know. It was a long road and I'm still on it, but gladly on the recovery end of it now. I went through so much, and was blessed to be supported by my family and friends through it all. I am a different person from this experience, p…
