But I'll get to that in a minute...
Seriously -
August?
Already?
I was considering titling this post "What I Did on My Summer Vacation", but that would have been
a bit monumentally disingenuous. Because February, March, April, and let's face it, most of May are not
technically even remotely part of Summer Vacation.
Then I thought of titling this post "Mom, Interrupted." But I didn't want to frighten any of you off with scary asylum imagery a la the movie...even if Angeli…

Summer is nearly here and with it comes family vacations. When my kids were little I always looked forward to these vacations. We would load up the RV and be gone for 3 to 4 weeks seeing the country. RVs work great for vacations if you have kids. I did not know this on our first family vacation so I booked a flight to Club Med. in the french west indies. We only had the girls then and they were 3, 4, and 8 years old, the perfect age for long flights and long layovers. What was I thinking!…

The babers is asleep in her stroller, it is raining outside, and the house is actually quiet. Normally, I would take this opportunity to run around the house frantically cleaning, but today I am forcing myself to enjoy some “me time” and sit on the sofa with a mug of coffee, my laptop, the cat, and my thoughts.
I had almost forgotten how good it feels to relax … to slow things down … to be “alone”. It’s like the instant I became a mom, I started moving at lightning speed. Everything is ru…

As moms, we worry about our children. We worry that our kids won't get bullied on the playground or that they don't turn into bullies themselves. We worry what colleges they'll get into, if they'll marry someone up to our standards and now, we worry if they'll get Swine Flu. Did you ever think you'd add Swine Flu to your list of worries?

The only thing you have for your breakfast is Pizza Rolls. Sure, there are a couple of other things lying around, but those have to be saved for the baby's meals.
You get gifts (such as digital cameras on Mother's Day) and insist they be taken back, because you know you won't have enough money to survive through the week.
You dread even walking into a store, especially with your child. Not only do you have to walk right on by things you would love to have, but you have to pretend not to notice…

I may be one of the only moms-to-be on this site, not pregnant and not trying yet. I'm thinking i may change that soon though. We'll see. But with pressure more than ever from my best friend--who first wanted me to wait to have a baby when she did... Then said I could go ahead and she'd c…

From the journal of Manic Motherhood:
Spring Break Day 1: Planned day filled with adventure and fun. Ended up with day that started at oh-dark-hundred when the dog escaped from Junior’s room, entered mine and gleefully woke me up by sticking her tongue up my nose. On the plus side, will not need to use nose hair trimmers for several months, if ever again. On the not-so-plus-side, every time I take a breath I smell dog food. Need aspirin to make it through the day.
Spring Break Day 2:…

When I found out I was officially nominated for The Mother of All Bloggers contest I was so happy and then kind of mortified because in order to win, I have to tell you all what my "Mom Logic" is. My response to that is "Um, what?" I know there are tons of books, websites, and even blogs devoted to this unexpected and un-perfected art that tout secrets and formulas for getting to be "the best mommy ever" down to a scie…

Words fail me when we live in a world where this is not a crime. The Saudi judge Sheikh Habib Al-Habib denied the 8 year old’s petition for the second time, first a divorce and then an annulment. He did make one concession, that the 47 year old husband sign a document that he would n…

And I still don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing.
Well, it's a good thing, it's for my kids and for the community, but it entails a ton of responsibility on top of the responsibilities that I am already wrapped up in:
Housework
Homeschooling
Running my own business
Now I may add charter school board member onto my resume.
The bad thing is, will it chew up all of my time? Will the military force me to move before I have chance to really be of service. Should I have ever volunteered?…

Come on moms... Admit it... The oldest kid is the coolest! Ok, maybe I'm just saying that because I'm the oldest child, but really, I think the first children have a special place in every parent's--Or grandparent's heart for that matter. In the Bible the sacrifice was the "first born" child... not the second or third... Does that mean something? Well, regardless if I'm reading too much into this, I'm really curious to know if you think the first GRANDCHILD is extra special.
To be honest, I was…

Hello, my new momlogic community friends! I'm so excited to be a part of a new little web group. I must confess though... I'm a little different--Not. Quite. Like--the rest of you. See, I'm not exactly a mom yet. Ok... I'm not at all. I'm actually not even pregnant nor am I trying to be right now. AHHH! Ok... Before you kick me out hear me out.
I've been married about four and a half years. My entire marriage I've gone back and forth about when I'd like to try to expand our family (I don't like…

I am just a mom. I live for my kids. I eat their scraps, clean their poopy butts and nurse them back to health when they are ill. My life totally changed when I became who I was destined to be…a mother. My priorities, goals and dreams changed. Even my everyday moniker changed….to…

I have taken my first steps toward becoming a Girl Scout troop leader. The minds of impressionable young girls will eventually be in my hands. I will become a mentor and role model to girls who have not come from my loins.
If you are not afraid, you must be drinking heavily. Stop that. It's bad. Pass me the bottle right now!
I grew up in a small town, and though we had a troop, I was only a member for about two days. My Scouting experience was minimal and for the life of me, I cannot remember…

It has been almost two years since I last worked in a hospital. Two years since I donned a pair of scrubs and draped a stethoscope around my neck. Two years since a decent paycheck was direct deposited into my account. And although the past two years have been priceless while watching my daughter grow, I am still often reminded of the world of medicine.
Throughout most of my nursing career I was not a parent. So it was common for me to receive doubtful stares and odd glances from parents of my…
