Yesterday I was feeling a little overwhelmed. I often get myself in trouble by offering my services to other people, and having them take me up on it! :)
Part of the problem is that when I offer my services I actually have the time, but when I finally get the stuff they want me to do, I get everyone's all at once.
That's kind of where I was yesterday - overwhelmed and overloaded.
When I went for my walk I just gave it to God, and didn't really worry about it anymore. Thoughts flitted back and…

I have a client, we’ll call her “Angie” – she has a best friend that to say the least is stressful to be around. She often subtly puts her down and insults her and appears to have no filter when it comes to expressing her feelings. Angie is about 20 pounds overweight and her friend is rail thin and resorts to dangerous starvation diets to keep her figure. Angie admits that if she had not known her friend for over 20 years, she would not be friends with this person. Is that really a good reason t…

In 2000 when I married my Airman husband I had the face of youth – no worry lines (or at least very few) creased my face. The next year saw 9/11 and the calm life I’d known as a military wife was forever altered. We live in Nebraska, far from ground zero, and yet the effects of what happened and the war that began as a result deeply impacted us as it did every military family in one way or another.
I was pregnant with our first child at the time, only three months away from giving birth. I reme…

Dear women,
It's okay to say it is hard sometimes.
It's okay to realize it is not that easy being a mother ... and a spouse ...and a business owner ...and a career woman ... and a daughter ... and a friend ... and a house cleaner ... and a laundry woman .... and a grocery shopper .... and a cook .... and a planner .... and a ..... WOMAN with thousands hats to wear.
But do not let it consume you and deny yourself 'You Time'!
Because you are very special and without you being healthy and happy o…

Okay maybe not rest but some time to myself. I've been spending the entire morning communicating with my SDs school and trying to find information for if this IEP doesn't go smoothly. I was able to contact the principal at her school and voiced our concerns and she has promised to get back in touch when she is able to gather enough information of why things have been going the way they have and she will now also be at the meeting. My persuasive writing skills in action!
While doing this my 8 mo…

As Moms we are unquestionably busy women. Whether or not we work outside of the house, or take care of aging parents in addition to tending to our children, our main focus throughout most of the day is in some way addressing someone else's needs. As part of American

Last week I put aside what I had planned in order to write an article that was commissioned 6 days before deadline by a magazine I queried in early November. Six days is not enough days, mind you – especially when the article requires interviews with famously busy experts on the topic and it’s find-a-$10-gift-for-the-holiday-office-party week.
Perhaps Santa likes irony. The article whose words and phrases chased my dreams away and left me stressed out and crazy was titled “How to Turn Off Your…

Christmas already? Did you know that it is 97 days until Christmas? If we really want to destress Christmas, it might be wise to start thinking about it now. Last year I did a series on Destressing Christmas. I think I'll repeat one part of the series each week just to help us get started. Here's the first one: Thinking Through Your Expectations
As you anticipate the holidays, think through your expectations. Talk with your family members or those with whom you will be spending the holiday seas…
