I am nervous and excited, because this year will be my first year participating in the craziest day of the year,
BLACK FRIDAY! I imagine people jumping over each other and knocking people down, so I am kind of freaking myself out and I am afraid, lol. Is it okay to bring my toddler, or is it too dangerous? This sounds so silly, but I have no idea!! lol

I’m years away from the sex talk, but here’s a funny precursor. My daughter loves balls. Blue balls. No, she hasn’t been traumatized by seeing my husband in his birthday suit. I’m talking about a set of good old-fashioned plastic balls.
Two weeks ago, Emory’s Maw Maw bought her an inflatable castle filled with multi-colored plastic balls. She spends hours in her fortress, tossing balls in and out. But recently, we picked up on a trend. She only throws the blue balls. No purple. No yellow. No pi…

As a grandparent to a one-year old, I'm reminded just how dangerous the toddler stage is for little people and the family that loves them. Parents childproof their homes as a regular parental responsibility but how safe really is the home, and what happens when parents and their small child ventures outside the home? A brief lapse of attention or revelation of a skill or ability the child has that is unknown to the parents can be enough for a tragic accident to occur.
I have wondered how parents…

Seattle Children's Hospital offers great information for parents and child care providers on Swine Flu. Many parents of course are frightened by the thought of their child being infected. Here's some tips from them along with their link for lots of great specific information.
Please seek emergency assistance if your child experiences any of the following:
Fast breathing or trouble breathing
Bluish skin color
Not drinking enough fluids
Not waking up or not interacting
Being so irritable that th…

Many parents approach the toddler stage with trepidation, after all they’ve heard about the “terrible twos” temper tantrums and rebellious confrontations. Fortunately many of those fears are never realized and parents instead are delighted and amused by their little one’s funny special interests and smarts.
One proud high fashion mom told me her baby girl’s first word, which was actually a phrase at 11 months was "I like shoes"! The young mom reported that she said it as clear as can be, and ad…

When a new baby arrives, they don’t do very much and cry to communicate their basic needs. It’s easy to underestimate how fast and how much they are learning because they aren’t verbal for many months. I’ve gathered some fascinating and enlightening real life examples of just clever and cognizant young babies are, as a reminder to challenge and protect them.
One young mom described to me how she taught her son sign language. At around 8 months, she said he started to copy the signs, but never u…

It happens somewhere in the United States 15 to 25 times a year, parceled out through the spring, summer and early fall. Kids are left in the car with fatal consequences by distracted parents and child care providers. The season is almost upon us.
Two decades ago, this was relatively rare. But in the early 1990s, car safety experts declared that passenger-side front airbags could kill children, and they recommended that child seats be moved to the back; then, for even more safety for the very y…

Ok, so Im trying to plan my sons 2nd birthday party and I need some help with games and anything else you can think of like food, treats, etc. The theme is Madagascar so wild life, animal that kind of thing. He loves the zoo but I cant afford to take all the kids and have the party there so it will be a back yard party. I want to make the invitations and cake or cupcakes to save on money. I have about 30 kids coming and I have not yet sent out the invites.

Some people in this family pay attention to detail. Others don’t.
I always thought I was one of the ones who did.
Apparently,… I was wrong.

“Mommy, I’m hungee. May I haf a snack?”
“Sure. What would you like to have for a snack?”
“Spoons.”
“Spoons? Uh… I don’t think you can actually eat spoons. Would you like a snack you need a spoon for?”
“No. I want Spoons.”
“Okay, do you want a snack or do you want to play with spoons?”
“I want to eat Spoooooooooons.”

Being the award winning time managment type I am, it's damn near 4am and I'm up watching Making the Band 4 ... Because you know when you've gotta be up in 4 hours ... That's what you do, right ... In case it's escaped anybody, I'm being sarcastic ...
Episode's done and I'm off to bed. I slip in next to my little itty bitty and of course he wakes up!
He seems to be sleepy still which is great since I'm now in a codeine-induced haze (Thank you, Dr. Singhla) ... There is silence and I'm all, "thi…

Hi Mommies -
Have to travel for work? Have an infant and/or toddler at home? And want to keep your hubby happy? Well here are a few things that I have learned on my recent travels and would love to share:
- Consult your hubby on your travel. I know we are independent working moms, but we still have to consider the say of our better half.
- Try to have a family member take care of the baby rather than dropping off at day care where the hours are restricted. I always try to schedule my trips on…

I’ve got that too-much-to-drink-slurred-speech-shouldn’t-operate-heavy-machinery kind of feeling this morning. And no, I didn’t tie one on last night (too bad for Leading Man, huh?).
The daycare transition separation anxiety drama drags on at Casa de Luedtke this morning. I am having trouble typing because my motor skills are sluggish and my brain is cluttered, but thought I’d fill you in on recent happenings.
Last week wasn’t great. Here’s the recap:

Not sure if it's the Monday doldrums, but am incredibly down today.
Started the day very concerned about David's breathing. Once again, my 5 a.m. visitor came in bed with me and was chatting loudly, so woke the boys. She was telling me in great detail how she saw a shadow but realized it was only her doll highchair, so wasn't scared, that it hadn't "talked" to her as the other shadow had.
At 6 a.m, I got up and got ready for work, vascilating the whole time between staying home and going in. T…

I am always on the lookout for books my son will like -- and that I won't mind reading OVER and OVER and OVER. Don't get me wrong, I think learning the names of obscure construction equipment is an important little boy right of passage. He should know the difference between a backhoe and a roller and a cherry picker, right?
Call me crazy -- I'd like him to know up and down, big and little, duck and cow and horse, too. I want him to dream about pirates, and shout "Aaarrrrr" as he uncovers buried…
