This Mom is staying sane between Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Ok~ This Mom has played the game of let's do "it all" during the Christmas Season. Now that I am 43 years old and my boys are 18 and 14, this Mom says, "No More." Sure, there are some activities on the family calendar that are a Must. So, what MUST a family partake in: The Christmas music program at school The Sunday School program at church The rehearsals for these two events The occasional school band concert Collecting donations for your local food bank and delivering them So, what can a fa… Continue

Not sure what this Mom witnessed- AMA Awards 2009!

OK~ My 14 year old really, really wanted to see Green Day perform on the 2009 AMA Awards. I have to admit it- this 40 something Mom does like Green Day. The language in the songs is pretty dicey at times- BUT- I like their music! Of course, Green Day performed towards the end- and wouldn't you know it- Adam Lambert's performance was shortly after. I was thinking to myself- during his freaked out performance- Garrett why didn't you go to bed? I could not believe that something like that would eve… Continue

H1N1 Vaccine craziness

Ok~ This Mom is trying to understand when/how some people will ever get vaccinated with the H1N1 vaccine. I know there are thousands of people that want the vaccine, but are unable to, due to supply issues. A recent dilemma brought to my attention- In our community, caregivers of infants under six months old have qualified for special clinics. But, should that caregiver be over 49 years old, have asthma, or have a cold- they will have to be vaccinated at a later date. Therefore, I'm sure many th… Continue

If your kids are ill- leave 'em home!

OK~ I'm at K-Mart in the check-out lane. There is one woman ahead of me and a mother/son behind me. The little boy is obviously not feeling well. I hear his Mother say, "I told you not to touch anything!" Next thing, little boy sneezes, coughs, and stuff flies out of his mouth onto the candy at the checkout lane. Note to self: That is why it is never ok to buy candy/gum on a last minute basis. The woman ahead of me has now left with her purchases. Now, it is my turn. The cashier rings my one ite… Continue

What's a Woman to do in regards to being diagnosed properly?

I'm sitting here pondering, while waiting to receive the text message that one of my classmates from high school has passed away. She has been in the battle of her lifetime, for three whole weeks! Yes, I said that, three weeks! Three weeks ago she appeared to be healthy. Then- WHAM- the diagnosis- breast, liver, lung, and bone cancer! YIKES- the battle had begun. I am now at a loss for words- and am wondering......How many women are diagnosed with depression or your pain is all "in your head?" T… Continue

Our Kids and Reality TV!

Well~ the past couple of days has opened my eyes, in regards to reality television and our kids. This "balloon boy" as we have came to know him as, is going to have issues for years to come. In all honesty, I'm thinking this little boy, as well as his family, had issues before the incident yesterday. I do recall watching Wife Swap (kicking myself for obliging to that level) and thinking to myself, "This guy is nuts!" I thought the Dad was rude, obnoxious and just out there. Now this child was pl… Continue

Parent/Teacher Conferences~ This Mom is disappointed!

How often do you want to crawl in a hole while at a parent/teacher conference? It happens more often than many of us can imagine. There is nothing more devastating to a parent when a teacher has all negative things to say about their child. Every child is blessed with distinct, individual skills. Maybe they love to talk, write, smile, bring a sense of happiness to the classroom. I truly believe that there is not one good reason for any parent to walk away from a parent/teacher conference and not… Continue

Is Uncle Sam invading your territory?

WOW~ I can't believe this news story that I just read. A woman in a town in Michigan is being investigated because she "watches" her friends' kids before they hop on the school bus in the morning. She is not being paid, but helping her friends out. This, in my eyes, is a sad day. Moms in the United States are now being punished for helping a friend out! I don't know about you. but; I am finding government, from a national level to state level, intruding in the lives of Moms more and more on a da… Continue

Stay away from this MOM , if you have the flu!

This Mom is really, really confused. People, if you are sick- STAY HOME! I am sitting at my desk, at my part time job, and a customer comes in and asks to use my telephone, I figure, "What can it hurt?" I offer to dial the local number for this gentleman and he proceeds to make his call. He is now on the phone calling his Physicians office- He has the flu! He is explaining his symptoms to the nurse on the other end- clammy body aches, chills, hurt to touch his hair, sweat dripping off of him, an… Continue

Hazing at New Jersey High School

Wow- another horrible story to wake up to. I do enjoy my morning news shows, as I like to know what is going on in the world. This story is so disturbing. One of the students the Today Morning Show interviewed said, "If you were one who wanted your name on this list, you would see nothing wrong with this!" What is WRONG with our young people today? They seem to have no respect for themselves, their bodies, and those around them. I am astounded that young girls would even scheme such a thing. It'… Continue

H1N1- Go away! You are stressin' this Mom Out!

OK~ To vaccinate or not? A day ago, I would have said, "Yep, this whole family is getting this vaccination!" Now, this morning, I wake up to hearing something to the effect of, "With the constant mutations of H1N1, we don't know if the vaccine will work on what it evolves to!" I am thinkin',"What?" With one child waking up and saying, "Mom, my throat is sore!" The pressure is mounting. I'm praying that this flu season will not be as bad as they have predicted. Now I'm wondering if we get the vac… Continue

Kids and School Lunches

This is literally "food" for thought! Due to the recent guidelines, which have been needed, our schools are now offering more healthy foods than ever before. The high school my son attends, is now using whole wheat flour when possible and offering more fresh fruits and vegetables. The catch here- These kids are not used to eating this kind of flour and DO NOT eat the food! In my eyes, it makes more sense to prepare healthy foods in a way that kids will eat! Kids need a nutritious, balanced meal… Continue

Violence on the School Bus

I am stunned and disturbed by the video I saw this morning on the CBS Morning Show. Unfortunately, this probably happens more often than most of us know. Bullying in our schools needs to stop. And yes, the school bus is an extension of the classroom, therefore; kids should be respectful. I honestly don't know if my kids were younger if I would have them ride the bus. The video showed a student being hit several times by another student. Thankfully, a brave student broke the fight up. Kudos to hi… Continue

All of this "social" networking! What's a Mom to do?

OK~ We all know the year is 2009, but as a Mom, are you overwhelmed with all of the social networking sites available to us? My thoughts on this- I LOVE the sites that I regularly link up to- BUT, then you have to draw the line somewhere, right? On Momlogic ( a site that rocks), we can join groups of our interest and groups that we can learn something new from! Pretty easy and cool. And then once we head off to Facebook- We can grow a farm in Farmtown or Farmville! There's also something called… Continue

My gardening experience!

OK~ How many of you have ever enjoyed your garden? I have tried through the years to grow the so called perfect garden. BUT- timing is literally everything and since I am not a patient person, the whole gardening experience does not end well for me. I seem to end up with dried up green beans, squish watermelons, and overgrown onions. I do realize that this could be avoided, but time just gets away. In order to be able to harvest the perfect crop, the watering can needs to pour regularly and Moth… Continue

The Social Networking Scene!

Think about this. How many social networking sites do you regularly visit? Momlogic, of course! Now, I don't know about you, but managing myself on a couple of these web sites can seem rather daunting at times. I LOVE social networking!
