I just finished the book, Billy: The Untold Story of Billy Graham and the Untold Test of Fait...We often put people on pedestals, which makes their fall that much harder. I have struggled when men or women I respected made choices that harmed not only them or their families, but those who might not believe in God or a Christian faith, and it confirms the worst of what people believe.
The book, Billy, is a look at internationally known evangalist, Billy Graham. But this is the interesting twist: His story is not told through that of adoring fans or seeking worshipers, but through the recount of a long-time friend who respects Billy but not Billy's God. The real-life story reveals Billy Graham as a young man who didn't necessarily respect the faith of his community or parents, but who found real faith and relationship in an old-fashioned tent meeting.
This led to a love for the Christian faith so great that he was willing to "practice" his message on anyone who would listen. It is the story behind the story. It puts a human face on a man who has lived a life of integrity and won millions to the Christian faith, but who is still just a man, which makes his story even more compelling. To find out more, go to the publisher's website (you can read a portion of the book).
Have you read it? If not, I recommend it as an add on your Christmas wish list.
On another note, did you know that CML is starting a book club? MissionChik (Desiree) will be leading it. She's forming a new group that will be launched soon. We'll keep you informed of the details!
