Today I want you to meet Dawn of Rylee For Life. Dawn was a young grandmother (she has grown stepchildren she adores) and mom of a young daugher. She thought life had fallen into a comfortable pattern. That is, until she and her husband of ten years started thinking about adoption. It was just a thought in the beginning, but as time passed it became a dream.
Eventually they brought home Rylee, a beautiful 4-year-old girl who turned their world upside down---in a good way. Dawn talks about her children, their journey to adoption, and what it is like to be a mom, grandma, and new mom all over again.
The blog is colorful and inviting. It's easy to read. Dawn has a fun and honest writing voice that makes you want to come back. And the best? Her pictures, like the one of Riley in her tutu. Isn't she adorable?
I hope you'll visit Dawn's blog and leave a comment, add it to your blogroll, and connect with Dawn on Momlogic.
I asked Dawn if she'd answer a few questions about adoption.SE: Thanks, Dawn for sharing your life with us! I love the blog. One question I've always wondered is does it take a long time to adopt?
Dawn: My answer is YES! It can take a long time, anywhere between 1 and 3 years. However, once you have your child in your arms, the wait really does fade away.
SE: Isn't adoption expensive?
Dawn: My answer is yes, it can be. However, many states and the federal government offer tax credits once your adoption is completed. There are also grants, donations, fundraisers, low interest loans and sometimes employer assistance available.
SE: Were you scared about adopting an older child?
Dawn: My answer again is yes! I was terrified at times and very worried about how she would adjust to life in a family and in particular our family. However, I spent a lot of time in prayer asking God to prepare her heart for us and also to prepare our hearts for her. I had a very strong faith that we were being obedient in pursuing our adoption and I trusted that God would see us through the details.
I am amazed daily at how Rylee fits into our family. She fills a void that we did not even realize we had. She is a daily reminder to me of how great our God is and how deeply he loves us as His adopted children through Jesus Christ! (Ephesians 1:5)
